About 317|Essentially 316 with more molybdenum (3-4% vs 2-3%). The extra moly provides better pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in aggressive chemical environments, particularly those involving sulfuric acid, acetic acid, and chloride-bearing solutions. Machines slightly worse than 316 due to the additional moly. Used in chemical processing, pulp and paper, and pharmaceutical applications where 316 isn't quite corrosion resistant enough. More expensive and harder to source. Compare to 316 (adequate for most chloride environments, cheaper) and 2205 duplex (higher strength, better SCC resistance).
