Material Price Book ("we", "us") is a free tool that helps machine shops benchmark metal pricing. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
What We Collect
Analytics (PostHog)
We use PostHog to understand how people use the site. PostHog collects:
- Pages you visit and how long you stay
- Buttons and links you click (autocapture)
- Referring URL (how you found us)
- Browser type, screen size, and operating system (from your user agent)
- Approximate location (country/region from your IP address)
PostHog sets a cookie and uses local storage to recognize returning visitors and track sessions. We use this data to improve the site and understand which features are useful. We do not sell this data or share it with advertisers.
PostHog data is hosted in the United States. You can read PostHog's privacy policy for more detail on how they handle data.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store your email address to send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
Drawing Cost Estimator
If you upload an engineering drawing to the Drawing Cost Estimator, the file is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. We do not store your uploaded files. You can review Google's Gemini API terms for how they handle data sent to their API.

Cookies & Local Storage
We use the following cookies and browser storage:

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics beyond PostHog.
Opting Out
You can disable all analytics tracking on the tracking control page. This sets a flag in your browser's local storage that prevents any data from being sent to PostHog.
Third-Party Services
Beyond PostHog, the site uses:
- Vercel for hosting (may log IP addresses in server logs)
- Google Fonts served via Next.js (self-hosted, no requests to Google)
Data Retention
Analytics data is retained in PostHog until our account is closed or the data is manually deleted. Newsletter emails are retained until you unsubscribe.
Your Rights
You can request a copy of any data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@materialpricebook.com.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
