Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) is the benchmark for raw steel prices.

About A588 GR B|Weathering steel. Also known by the trade name Cor-Ten. Contains copper, chromium, nickel, and phosphorus that form a stable rust-colored patina when exposed to the atmosphere, eliminating the need for painting. 50 KSI minimum yield, comparable to A572 GR50 in strength. The patina is self-healing. If scratched, it re-forms. Used for bridges, architectural applications, outdoor sculptures, and any exposed structural steel where you want the maintenance-free weathered look. Requires a wet/dry cycling environment to form the patina properly. In consistently wet or marine environments, it just rusts normally. Compare to A572 GR50 (same strength, needs paint) and A606 TY4 (weathering sheet/strip grade).
About Plate|Thick flat stock, generally 3/16" and up, used for machined base plates, fixture plates, wear surfaces, and structural fabrication. Heavier grades get milled, drilled, and tapped directly.
