Zinc is a key alloying element in brass and galvanizing processes.

About 260|Cartridge brass (70% copper, 30% zinc). Named for its original use in ammunition cartridge cases. Excellent cold formability — it deep-draws beautifully. Not a machining alloy. In the shop, it’s soft, gummy, and produces long stringy chips. Its strength is in forming: stamped parts, drawn shells, radiator cores, and decorative hardware. Available mainly in sheet, strip, and wire. If someone specs 260 for a machined part, ask why — C360 machines dramatically better. Compare to C360 (far better machinability) and 230 red brass (higher copper, warmer color, better corrosion resistance).
About Angle|An L-shaped structural profile used for frames, supports, brackets, and edge reinforcement. It's primarily a fabrication product that gets cut, welded, and bolted rather than precision machined.
