Nickel is a primary cost driver for stainless steel and superalloys.

About 718|Inconel 718 (52.5% nickel, 19% chromium, 18.5% iron, 5% niobium, 3% molybdenum). The most widely used nickel superalloy. Precipitation-hardenable to very high strength (180+ KSI) while maintaining corrosion resistance and performance to 1300°F. This is jet engine turbine disk material, gas turbine material, and rocket engine material. Machines better than 625 or 600 in the solution-annealed condition, but still difficult. After aging it's extremely tough on tools. Ceramic inserts are common in production. Used extensively in aerospace, power generation, and oil and gas. Compare to Inconel 625 (not hardenable, better corrosion resistance, worse machinability) and Waspaloy (higher temperature capability).
About Sheet|Thin flat stock, generally under 3/16", used for stamping, bending, shearing, and laser/plasma cutting. It's the starting material for enclosures, panels, brackets, and formed sheet metal parts.
