Nickel is a primary cost driver for stainless steel and superalloys.

About A286|An iron-based superalloy (25.5% nickel, 15% chromium, 1.3% molybdenum, 2.15% titanium). Precipitation-hardenable to high strength while maintaining oxidation resistance to 1300°F. This is the budget superalloy. Much cheaper than nickel-based alternatives while providing adequate high-temperature performance. Used for jet engine cases, turbine wheels, fasteners, and springs at elevated temperatures. Machines moderately well in the annealed condition. Compare to Inconel 718 (higher temperature capability, more expensive) and 17-4 PH stainless (less temperature resistant but easier to source).
About Sheet|Thin flat stock, generally under 3/16", used for stamping, bending, shearing, and laser/plasma cutting. It's the starting material for enclosures, panels, brackets, and formed sheet metal parts.
