About 154|CPM 154 (also 154CM) is a premium martensitic stainless with high carbon and molybdenum content. Heat treats to 58-61 HRC with excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance. This is a knife steel that also sees use in high-wear industrial applications like valve seats and pump components. Machine it annealed, then heat treat. After hardening, only grinding and EDM are practical. Compare to 440C (cheaper, slightly less corrosion resistant) and CPM S30V (better toughness, similar hardness).

About Rectangular Bar|Solid rectangular cross-section stock. Functionally similar to flat bar but typically available in thicker, chunkier profiles. The naming varies by supplier — what one calls rectangular bar, another calls flat bar. Used for keys, gibs, wear strips, brackets, and any part where a rectangular starting profile saves setup time versus milling from plate.
