About CS-B|Commercial Steel, Bending Quality. This is a generic designation for low-carbon steel sheet and strip intended for moderate forming and bending applications. CS-B doesn't guarantee specific chemistry or mechanical properties beyond being formable enough for simple bends. It's the cheapest sheet steel you can buy. What you actually get is whatever the mill had running that day, typically somewhere in the 1008-1020 carbon range. Fine for brackets, covers, simple enclosures, and anything that gets bent on a press brake and welded. Not appropriate for machining or any application where you need consistent mechanical properties. Compare to A36 (has actual guaranteed minimum yield strength), 1018 (specified chemistry, better machinability), and 1008/1010 (similar softness but with defined chemistry for deeper forming).
About Plate|Thick flat stock, generally 3/16" and up, used for machined base plates, fixture plates, wear surfaces, and structural fabrication. Heavier grades get milled, drilled, and tapped directly.
