About S7|Shock-resistant tool steel. The highest impact toughness of any common tool steel. Designed for tools that take repeated heavy blows: chisels, punches, shear blades, and forming dies on heavy presses. Air-hardens to HRC 56-58 with exceptional resistance to chipping and cracking. Also has decent hot hardness, making it useful for some hot-work applications. Machines well annealed. Compare to H13 (better hot hardness, less impact resistance) and A2 (better wear resistance, less toughness).

About Rectangular Bar|Solid rectangular cross-section stock. Functionally similar to flat bar but typically available in thicker, chunkier profiles. The naming varies by supplier — what one calls rectangular bar, another calls flat bar. Used for keys, gibs, wear strips, brackets, and any part where a rectangular starting profile saves setup time versus milling from plate.
