At True Precision Machining, Buellton, CA
I'm Eric Na
I write The Material Report and built Material Price Book.
If a material quote looks high, send it over. I'll remove your name and your supplier's name, then check the quote against current pricing benchmarks.
With your permission, I can also ask other suppliers for comparable offers. I send you back a side-by-side comparison so you can see the delivered price, lead time, terms, and any differences in the material or certs.
Sometimes I find a lower price. Sometimes your current quote is already good. I'll tell you what I find.
There's no charge to the shop. A supplier pays me a flat introduction fee only if you choose to buy from them.
What happens after you send a quote
I read the quote myself and check the material, size, quantity, grade, cert requirements, freight, and delivery location.
If you want me to shop it, I create a clean request with the information suppliers need to quote it. I do not send them your original document. They do not receive your name, your company's name, or the name of your current supplier.
I send the request to suppliers that can deliver to your area and follow up until I have offers you can actually compare.
If an offer changes anything, such as the temper, certs, origin, lead time, freight, or payment terms, I call that out. I do not present two offers as equivalent when they are not.
I send the results to you. You decide whether any offer is worth pursuing. When you choose one, I make the introduction and step out of the transaction.
If no qualified supplier improves on your current quote, I'll tell you that too.
Where I stop
I'm not a machinist, and I won't pretend to understand your application better than you do.
My job is to compare the commercial offers, handle the outreach, and make the differences clear. I do not change your spec, approve substitutions, or decide whether an alternative material is acceptable.
When a supplier proposes something different, I flag it and let you decide.
The rules I follow
- I do not publish your quote or anything that identifies you or your supplier.
- I never contact the supplier that wrote your original quote, so they never learn you checked it.
- Other suppliers do not see your original document.
- I call out differences instead of hiding them inside a lower price.
- If your existing quote is competitive, I say so.
- The service is free for shops. My only fee comes from a supplier you choose to buy from.
