About 693|Silicon red brass (81.5% copper, 14.5% zinc, 4% silicon). An uncommon specialty alloy with high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. The silicon addition improves wear resistance and gives it self-lubricating properties in bearing applications. Harder to machine than leaded brasses but manageable with carbide. Used for bearings, gears, and marine hardware where strength and corrosion resistance are both critical. Compare to 655 silicon bronze (higher copper, no zinc) and 464 naval brass (different approach to marine corrosion).
