About 544|Free-cutting phosphor bronze (88% copper, 4% tin, 4% lead, 4% zinc). The machinability-optimized version of the phosphor bronze family. Lead content brings the machinability rating up to around 80 — dramatically better than unleaded C510. Used for screw machine parts that need the corrosion resistance and wear characteristics of phosphor bronze with reasonable machinability. Gears, bushings, bearings, and precision turned components. Compare to C510 (much harder to machine but better spring properties) and C932 (higher lead content, designed specifically for bearing applications).
