The iron base gives structural strength while the bronze and oil provide lubrication. Self-lubricating under normal operating conditions. The standard for medium-duty sleeve bearings in automotive, agricultural, and industrial equipment. Not a machining material — pressed to net shape from powder. Compare to SAE 863 (pure bronze, lower load capacity, better corrosion resistance) and C932 (cast bronze, much higher load capacity, fully machinable).
