About K500|Monel K-500. Precipitation-hardenable version of Alloy 400 that can be age-hardened to roughly HRC 30-35. Same excellent corrosion resistance as 400 but with significantly higher strength and hardness. Used for pump shafts, oil well tools, doctor blades, and marine fasteners where Monel 400 isn't strong enough. Harder to machine than 400 in the aged condition. Machine before aging when possible. Compare to Alloy 400 (softer, easier to machine) and 17-4 PH stainless (similar hardening concept but different corrosion profile).
