About 17-7PH|A semi-austenitic precipitation-hardening stainless. Unique among PH grades because it starts austenitic and can be transformed to martensite through cold work or thermal treatment before aging. This gives it excellent formability in the annealed condition followed by high strength after processing. Used for spring components, diaphragms, aircraft structural parts, and surgical instruments. Machines poorly in the hardened condition. Plan all machining before final aging. Compare to 17-4 PH (martensitic from the start, easier to work with) and 301 (also work-hardens but not precipitation-hardenable).
About Sheet|Thin flat stock, generally under 3/16", used for stamping, bending, shearing, and laser/plasma cutting. It's the starting material for enclosures, panels, brackets, and formed sheet metal parts.
