About 310|The high-temperature stainless (25% chromium, 20% nickel). Maintains structural integrity and oxidation resistance up to 2000°F. This is the furnace fixture, radiant tube, and heat treatment basket alloy. The high nickel and chromium content makes it expensive. Machines like a tougher version of 304, with more work-hardening and gummier chips from the higher alloy content. Use sharp carbide, aggressive feeds, and flood coolant. Not commonly seen in general machining work. If it shows up, it's for a high-temperature application. Compare to 309 (slightly lower temperature rating, cheaper) and Inconel 600 (higher temperature capability, significantly more expensive).
About Sheet|Thin flat stock, generally under 3/16", used for stamping, bending, shearing, and laser/plasma cutting. It's the starting material for enclosures, panels, brackets, and formed sheet metal parts.
