Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) is the benchmark for raw steel prices.

About 1010|Low-carbon steel (0.10%) with slightly more strength and hardness than 1008 but still firmly in the 'formability first' category. Common in sheet, strip, tubing, and wire. Can be case-hardened (carburized) for a hard surface on a soft core, which gives it a niche in small parts production. Still gummy and difficult to get a good finish on in a lathe or mill. Welds easily. Used for cold-formed parts, light structural tubing, and anywhere you need a cheap, formable steel with known chemistry. Compare to 1008 (softer, more formable) and 1018 (better machinability, the right choice for any real machining work).
About Round Tube|Hollow cylindrical stock for sleeves, bushings, spacers, and hydraulic cylinders. DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubing machines well and holds tight tolerances. Welded-seam structural tube is for cutting and welding, not precision work.
