About 4330|A nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy steel with 0.30% carbon. Lower carbon than 4340 gives better weldability and toughness at the expense of some ultimate hardness. Used for aircraft structural components, oil field tools, and heavy-duty forgings where impact resistance and weldability matter more than maximum hardness. Machines similar to 4340. Often specified in the vacuum-melted version (4330V). Compare to 4340 (higher carbon, stronger, less weldable) and 4130 (even lower carbon, best weldability in the 41xx/43xx family).
