About 80CRV2|A European spring and blade steel (0.80% C, 0.50% Cr, 0.20% V). The chromium and vanadium additions improve hardenability and grain refinement over plain 1080 carbon steel. Popular with bladesmiths for large choppers and camp knives because the alloy additions improve toughness at high hardness. Heat treats to HRC 59-62. Machine annealed. Not a standard US industrial grade. Compare to
1084 (simpler heat treat, no alloy additions) and 5160 (more chromium, the US spring steel equivalent).
