About 86L20|Leaded 8620. Lead added to improve machinability for high-volume production of carburizing parts like gears and pins. Same case-hardening properties as 8620 after carburizing, but faster to machine and better chip control in the soft state before heat treatment. Same caveats as all leaded steels: can't weld it, environmental concerns, some specs prohibit it. If you're running thousands of gear blanks on a screw machine or CNC lathe, the cycle time savings are significant. Compare to 8620 (standard grade, weldable) and 8620H (hardenability-guaranteed version).
