About Maraging 250|Maraging steel (250 KSI tensile). An ultra-high-strength nickel-cobalt-molybdenum steel that hardens through age-hardening of a low-carbon martensite matrix, not through carbon-based heat treatment. Machines beautifully in the annealed condition: soft, ductile, clean chips. After aging at 900°F, it reaches 250 KSI with exceptional toughness. Dimensional change during aging is predictable and minimal. Used for aerospace structural components, missile casings, die-casting dies, and precision tooling. Extremely expensive. Compare to
4340 (much cheaper, decent strength but nowhere near 250 KSI) and
Maraging 300 (even stronger).
