About Grade 23|Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitial). Same 6-4 composition as
Grade 5 but with tighter controls on oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and iron. The reduced interstitial elements improve fracture toughness, ductility, and stress corrosion resistance, particularly at cryogenic temperatures. This is the medical implant grade, FDA-approved for surgical implants because the cleaner chemistry reduces risk of adverse tissue reaction. Also used for cryogenic vessels and aerospace structural components where damage tolerance is critical. Slightly more expensive than standard Grade 5. Machines the same.
