About 6005|An extrusion alloy that sits between
6063 and
6061 in strength. Developed specifically for thin-walled, complex extrusion profiles that need more structural performance than 6063 can deliver. Shows up in transit railcar frames, truck trailer structures, and architectural systems where the cross-section does the work. Machines adequately but like most extrusion alloys, it’s designed to flow through a die, not sit in a chuck. If you’re machining 6005, it’s almost always secondary operations on an extruded profile. Compare to 6063 (weaker, better surface finish) and 6061 (stronger, the standard for bar stock).
