About 302|The original 18-8 stainless, essentially 304 with a slightly higher carbon range. In modern production, there's virtually no practical difference between 302 and 304. Most distributors use the terms interchangeably. 302 allows up to 0.15% carbon versus 0.08% for 304, but most heats fall well below 0.08% anyway. Machines identically to 304. If a drawing calls out 302, you can usually supply 304 without issue. Compare to 304 (functionally identical in modern production) and 301 (lower alloy content, more work-hardenable).
