About 1075|High-carbon steel (0.75% carbon). Spring steel territory. Can be hardened to HRC 55-60 with good edge retention and spring properties. Harder to machine than medium-carbon grades and requires preheat for any welding. Used for springs, agricultural blades, hand tools, and wear parts. Machines best in the annealed or spheroidized condition. Compare to 1095 (even higher carbon, harder, more brittle) and 1045 (lower carbon, easier to weld, less hardenable).

About Sheet|Thin flat stock, generally under 3/16", used for stamping, bending, shearing, and laser/plasma cutting. It's the starting material for enclosures, panels, brackets, and formed sheet metal parts.
