About 465|Custom 465 (UNS S46500) is a premium precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless from Carpenter. Achieves ultimate tensile strengths exceeding 250 KSI with excellent toughness and corrosion resistance comparable to 304. One of the strongest stainless steels available. Machine in the annealed condition. After aging it requires carbide or CBN tooling. Used for critical aerospace components, military ordnance, and extreme-performance fasteners. Very expensive and limited availability. Compare to 13-8 Mo (lower strength, more available) and PH 13-8 Mo (the closest competitor in performance).
