About 455|Custom 455 (UNS S45500) is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless developed by Carpenter Technology. Ages to very high strength (220+ KSI tensile) with good corrosion resistance. Offers better stress corrosion cracking resistance than 17-4 PH. Machine in the annealed condition, then age-harden. Used in aerospace fasteners, ordnance components, and high-strength marine applications. Limited availability compared to 17-4. Compare to 17-4 PH (more common, lower strength) and 13-8 Mo (comparable strength, different corrosion profile).
