About Grade 2|Commercially pure titanium (CP-2). The workhorse grade for chemical processing and marine applications. Good corrosion resistance, moderate strength (50 KSI yield), and excellent weldability. Machines better than alloy grades but still demands respect. Use sharp, uncoated carbide (TiN coating is pointless on titanium since it's already titanium). Low speeds (50-100 SFM), aggressive feed, flood coolant (water-based, never chlorinated). Chips are thin and hot. They can catch fire if they pile up. Maintain positive rake and never let the tool dwell. Used for heat exchangers, chemical piping, marine hardware, and medical implants. Compare to
Grade 5 (much stronger but more expensive) and 316 stainless (cheaper, adequate for many corrosion applications).
