Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) is the benchmark for raw steel prices.

About AR400F|Abrasion-resistant plate, 400 Brinell hardness (approximately HRC 38-42). The 'F' typically indicates it's a formable variant with controlled chemistry for better bending and welding than standard AR400. This is wear plate, not structural plate. Used for dump truck beds, chutes, hoppers, conveyor liners, and any surface that takes a beating from rocks, gravel, or other abrasive material. The hardness is achieved through quench and tempering. Machines much harder than A36 but not impossibly. Needs carbide tooling and reduced speeds. Don't try to drill it with HSS. Compare to AR200 and AR235 (softer, easier to form), A514 (structural strength, not wear-optimized), and A516 (pressure vessel, completely different application).
About Plate|Thick flat stock, generally 3/16" and up, used for machined base plates, fixture plates, wear surfaces, and structural fabrication. Heavier grades get milled, drilled, and tapped directly.
