About 5000|Generic designation covering the 5xxx series (aluminum-magnesium alloys). Non-heat-treatable alloys with good corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments. Strength depends on the specific grade: 5052, 5083, and 5086 are the most common. All are weldable and gummier to machine than 6061. See specific 5xxx grades for details.
