About CAST TOOLING|Cast aluminum plate designed specifically for machining fixtures, jigs, molds, and tooling. The key property is dimensional stability, not strength. Because it’s cast rather than rolled, it has virtually zero internal stress, so it stays flat when you machine it. Where 6061 plate can warp and move as you remove material, cast tooling plate holds its shape. Produces small, uniform chips and machines consistently. Comes ground flat on both sides to tight tolerances (±.005”). MIC-6 (7xxx series) and ATP-5 (5083 based) are the two big names. If you’re building a fixture or jig where flatness and stability matter more than raw strength, this is what you want.
About Plate|Thick flat stock, generally 3/16" and up, used for machined base plates, fixture plates, wear surfaces, and structural fabrication. Heavier grades get milled, drilled, and tapped directly.
