About 954|Aluminum bronze (85% copper, 11% aluminum, 4% iron). The workhorse heavy-duty bearing bronze. Significantly stronger and harder than tin bronzes or leaded bronzes — tensile strength can exceed 90 KSI. Excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact toughness. Used for heavy-duty bearings in steel mills, landing gear bushings, bridge trunnions, and marine propeller hubs. Machines like a tough steel — rigid setups, carbide tooling, and aggressive feeds are mandatory. Don’t try HSS. Compare to
C932 (much easier to machine but far less strong) and
630 nickel aluminum bronze (even stronger, even harder to machine).
